SQL Server installation fails: Unable to cast object of type System.Int64 to type System.String

User reported that the installation of the Microsoft SQL Server (instance ADOXX15EN) fails using the Bee-Up installer. When trying to manually install the SQL Server (Version 2012) they got the error: "Unable to cast object of type System.Int64 to type System.String":

They tried, without success:

  • Downloading Bee-Up again
  • Installing using a different user
  • Updating Windows
  • Restarting the PC
  • Closing all other programs

Search for that kind of error mostly resulted in problems when USING SQL Server not INSTALLING it.
